At some point in life, you were probably required to write down your schedule. This is a good habit to develop and can go a long way in helping you to be organized. If you have ever had to keep track of a schedule in your life, it is possible that you will use this habit again and again.

3. Find a system that works for you

Once you have a system that you are accustomed to, it is important to make sure that you do not stray from it. As trivial as these tasks may seem, many of us find ourselves returning to our old routines when things once again seem chaotic and disorganized.

The first habit that organized my life is mindfulness. Although prior to becoming a sailor, I had no idea what mindfulness was, the word popped up in one of my lectures by chance. My professor was explaining its meaning and how it could be applied to everyday life. As I was learning about mindfulness, I realized how it is the key to a productive and effective way of living.

A lot of people like to live their lives as if they are in a constant state of chaos. This increases the level of stress in our lives, which only causes more problems. It is important to be honest with yourself and your emotions. If you are feeling down, don’t spend hours surfing the web or just sitting in front of the TV. There is a reason that you feel down, and it may be wise to simply address that reason.

7. Choose to be organized

This is a major aspect of being organized. It does not matter what sort of life you lead if you are not organized with it, and it will continue to get worse. You need to be productive, and if that means you have to organize your life, then do it.

8. Be realistic with yourself

Life is very unpredictable, and there are times when being organized can seem like an extremely difficult task. There are times when you are just not going to be organized. During these times, don’t beat yourself up over it. Instead, give yourself a break and remember that tomorrow is another day.

9. Create a life goal (something big) and write it down somewhere public

Many people come to live by their schedule and don’t realize the sheer amount of time they waste going through the same routine each day. Eventually, you will have a goal, whether short-term or long-term, whatever that is, write it down somewhere you will see it often.

10. Go to bed early

Not getting enough sleep is a bad habit that can be incredibly detrimental to your life, especially when it comes to organization. Don’t stay up until two in the morning and then expect to be productive during the day. Instead, force yourself to go to bed early and get in the habit of waking up early.
